Case Study: NASA achieves automated, standardized, and secure software deployments with Octopus Deploy

A Octopus Deploy Case Study

NASA - Customer Case Study

NASA’s IT‑C2 team at Kennedy Space Center, supporting nearly 400 production applications, faced a brittle, manual deployment process: a custom installer required roughly 50 manual steps, configuration lived in Word documents on SharePoint, and deployments were error‑prone, slow, and paperwork‑heavy. To modernize their software delivery lifecycle they adopted Octopus Deploy to automate and standardize deployments.

Using Octopus Deploy, NASA reduced production deployment steps from about 50 to fewer than 20, eliminated System Administrator handoffs, moved configuration into secure Octopus variables, and gained automated encryption, enforced promotion workflows, audit trails, automated release notes, notifications, backups, and rollbacks. The result was faster promotions between environments, far fewer copy/paste errors and security exposures, and a significant reduction in time and manpower required to deploy applications.
