UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre - Customer Case Study

UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre worked with Oasys Software on the basement retaining wall design for its London cancer centre development, where tight space constraints near the adjacent Rayne Institute limited wall thickness and offset. The challenge was to design and assess a secant pile wall that could safely support excavation while protecting nearby piles and accommodating a service lift at the boundary.

Using Oasys Frew, Alp, AdSec, and Pilset/Pile, Oasys Software supported an iterative analysis of ground movement, pile bending moments, reinforcement capacity, axial loading, and settlements. This allowed the Arup geotechnical team to refine the design, compare reinforced and unreinforced pile performance, and control the impact on the Rayne Institute piles, enabling a practical solution for the constrained basement excavation.
