A Oasys Software Case Study
Arup, a global engineering firm, faced challenges in redesigning a complex, historic underground station in Eastern Europe due to a lack of accurate 3D spatial data and up-to-date architectural drawings. The high passenger volumes and operational constraints of the station made traditional data collection difficult. To address this, Arup's people movement team utilized reality capture scanning technology and Oasys Software's MassMotion pedestrian simulation software to develop a detailed dynamic model.
Oasys Software's solution involved using LiDAR scanning to quickly create an accurate 3D model of the station, which was then imported into MassMotion. This allowed Arup to test various enhancement options, leading to the implementation of successful soft measures like changing circulation routes and optimizing gate layouts. The Oasys solution provided the client with the confidence to proceed with construction investments, notably by demonstrating how a new, slimmer escalator could improve flow, and helped plan for construction impacts, all while saving significant time and cost over manual data collection.
