SSE Renewables stores 90,000m³ of spoil with Oasys Software

Oasys Software provided slope stability analysis expertise to SSE Renewables for their Coire Glas hydropower project. The challenge was to design a stable and environmentally sound storage area for over 60,000m³ of excavated spoil on the steep banks of Loch Lochy, which would avoid the negative cost and environmental impacts of offsite disposal.

Using Oasys Slope software, a detailed analysis was conducted which informed the design of the storage platforms. The solution implemented by Oasys Software was highly successful; it eliminated the need to import any materials and ensured no spoil required export for disposal. The spoil storage area was completed on schedule, enabling the material to be repurposed for the project's main works.
