Case Study: Arup designs a sustainable hybrid residential building with Oasys GSA

A Oasys Software Case Study

Preview of the Arup Case Study

Residential building built with the elements in mind using Oasys GSA

Arup, a global engineering firm, was tasked with designing a sustainable 70-meter-tall hybrid timber-concrete residential building in Amsterdam. Their challenge was to optimize the design for multiple environmental elements, including daylight, energy generation, and water collection, while ensuring structural integrity. They utilized Oasys GSA for structural analysis and design.

Oasys provided a solution where GSA was integrated into a parametric workflow with Rhino and Grasshopper via its API. This allowed Arup to automate the design of timber elements and extensively explore building options. The use of Oasys software enabled the project team to optimize the hybrid support structure, successfully reducing the building's CO2 footprint by more than 50% and meeting their sustainability objectives.
