Queensland Gallery of Modern Art - Customer Case Study

The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, alongside its project partners, faced the challenge of constructing an architecturally striking pedestrian bridge with an extremely tight budget and geometric constraints. The design needed to be visually light, complement the adjacent gallery, and be built without temporary supports over a deep, fast-flowing river. Oasys Software's GSA, part of its Structural Suite, was used to help engineer a winning tensegrity design, a world first for a major structure.

Oasys proved invaluable by enabling the engineering team at Arup to perform thousands of sophisticated, non-linear construction stage analyses via GSA's COM interface. This ensured all prefabricated components would fit together perfectly without on-site adjustments, a critical requirement given the project's time constraints and the structure's complexity. The solution's success was demonstrated when the two cantilevered halves of the Kurilpa Bridge met with millimeter precision at the mid-span, exactly as predicted by the Oasys software analysis.
