Persimmon Homes Thames Valley predicts 47mm embankment settlement with Oasys Software

Persimmon Homes Thames Valley required the design of new acoustic earthwork embankments as noise barriers for a development near the M3 motorway. Their challenge was to assess the ground movement and settlement that these structures would cause, ensuring stability and safety. To meet this challenge, they worked with Oasys Software and its geotechnical analysis product, Oasys PDisp.

The solution involved using Oasys PDisp to perform finite element analysis and settlement modelling in accordance with Eurocode 7. The software calculated the stress changes from the embankments and predicted the resulting ground movements. Oasys Software's analysis provided precise results, estimating a total immediate settlement of 47mm under the embankment's centerline and no consolidation settlement 120 years after construction, confirming the design's long-term stability.
