Oasys Slope chosen for groundworks for £425 million scheme

The Circuit of Wales, a proposed major motorsport and leisure destination, faced a significant earthworks challenge. The project needed to reuse 2.2 million cubic meters of excavated peat and softened clay on-site to achieve an earthworks balance, but these materials had very poor stability. Oasys Software's Oasys Slope program was selected to model and design the large, complex spectator berms that would be built with this difficult material.

Using Oasys Slope, the team optimized the berm designs for different heights, zoned materials based on strength to use them more efficiently, and designed geosynthetic reinforcement for steeper slopes. This analysis by Oasys was critical in demonstrating the project's viability and achieving the key objective of reusing the vast majority of excavated material on-site. This resulted in major cost savings for the client by minimizing the need to import new fill or dispose of material off-site.
