Monte Carlo simulation risk assessment of existing structures using Oasys GSA

Arup worked with Oasys Software to complete a quantitative risk assessment of two existing buildings with a range of design and construction defects. Using Oasys GSA, Arup needed to understand the likely current condition of the structures and identify the most effective measures to reduce risk.

Oasys Software supported the creation of thousands of probabilistic building models by combining GSA and GSApy with a custom Python-based Risk Engine. The solution simulated different defect scenarios and wind loads, calculated demand-capacity ratios and storey drift, and stored the results for analysis, enabling Arup to quantify building risk and prioritize refurbishment actions more efficiently.
