Merseyrail, the Liverpool urban rail network, needed to prepare its stations for growing passenger numbers while maintaining safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Working with Oasys Software, it used MassMotion 3D pedestrian simulation to support refurbishment planning at busy underground stations including Liverpool Central and Moorfields.

Oasys Software and Royal HaskoningDHV modelled passenger arrivals, movement through platforms, lifts, stairs, and escalators, and future demand scenarios to identify congestion bottlenecks and test station design changes. The analysis helped Merseyrail optimise station capacity, improve safety, eliminate bottlenecks, and support better passenger flow management and future planning.
