Jerde, an architecture firm, faced immense engineering challenges while designing the Złote Tarasy shopping complex in Warsaw. The project featured a deep basement, an outwardly leaning office block, and an extraordinarily complex, undulating glass atrium roof, requiring some of the most sophisticated structural analysis ever undertaken by their engineering partner, Arup.

Using Oasys GSA software, Arup created a highly complex finite element model of the structure to overcome these challenges. The software was instrumental in optimizing the raft foundation to prevent differential settlement, designing the complex transfer structures in the basement, and, most notably, analyzing the unique atrium roof. Oasys GSA enabled the engineers to perform a critical buckling analysis and successfully design the spectacular, iconic roof from first principles, achieving the architectural vision without compromising structural integrity.
