Halcrow, working with Oasys Software on the A40 Lledr Valley Improvement project, faced the challenge of widening and upgrading 7.2km of road through the steep and environmentally sensitive Lledr Valley in Snowdonia National Park. The scheme required careful design of 3.5km of retaining walls in difficult rocky terrain while keeping the road open throughout construction.

Oasys Software provided structural and geotechnical analysis tools including GSA, AdSec, Frew, Slope and PDisp to model retaining walls, slope stability, settlement and construction staging. This enabled the team to adapt the design to site conditions, reduce disruption, and deliver an efficient solution that helped the project finish five months ahead of schedule and within budget.
