EPFL, specifically its Chair of Timber Construction (IBOIS), sought to teach its Civil Engineering masters students how to manage a real-life structural design project for timber buildings, taking them from an architect's initial drawings to detailed calculations. The challenge was to provide a powerful and practical analysis tool that the students could learn and use effectively for this purpose with the support of Oasys Software.

Oasys provided the course with a UNIPAC license for its GSA suite analysis software. The students, who had no prior experience with GSA, used it extensively to model complex structural systems. The solution was highly successful, with students finding the software powerful and appreciating its hands-on, real-world application. The Oasys support and the GSA software were acknowledged as invaluable to the course, providing students with a beneficial skill for their professional careers.
