Eindhoven University of Technology sought to design a large-span pneumatic roof cushion for a rectangular courtyard. The structural challenge was to move beyond the optimal circular shape for such cushions and create a stable, minimally obstructive design. To accomplish this, students at the university utilized Oasys GSA software for its form-finding capabilities.

Using Oasys GSA, the team determined that a diagonal cable net combined with a steel frame was the most effective solution. The software proved invaluable in evaluating different cable net configurations and form-finding methods, which led to a design that spread horizontal forces uniformly and minimized visual coverage. This successful Oasys-powered project won the Oasys Project of the Year 2016 Competition.
