Crossrail worked with Oasys Software to support damage assessment and monitoring for the Crossrail tunnelling route, where several hundred listed buildings were at risk from settlement. The challenge included protecting sensitive landmarks such as the Grade 1 listed Brunel Shed at Paddington Station while simplifying analysis for Crossrail engineers. Oasys Software’s XDisp product was used on the project.

Oasys Software incorporated the building damage assessment approach into XDisp, enabling more streamlined analysis and clearer risk evaluation for affected structures. The method, combined with a strict monitoring regime and mitigation measures such as compensation grouting, helped increase awareness of how to reduce risk on major excavation projects. The result was an effective way to limit settlement risk, and the presentation of the approach was well received.
