Corbett & Tasker - Customer Case Study

The customer, Corbett & Tasker, faced the challenge of designing an innovative but buildable hyperbolic paraboloid timber shell roof for a new youth centre with stringent height limitations. They required a flexible structural analysis software, Oasys GSA, capable of handling shell structures, performing buckling analysis, and conducting ponding checks to ensure the structural integrity of the complex form.

Oasys provided the solution through its GSA software, which was used to create a finite element model of the roof. The analysis proved that by modelling the timber ribs compositely with the shell panels, the buckling factors were kept sufficiently high, validating the design's safety. The team at Oasys also offered valuable technical support throughout the project, which was instrumental in successfully realizing the distinctive and elegant roof structure.
