Brunel University London uses Oasys Software to model 2022-23 evacuation scenarios for vulnerable patients

Brunel University London spearheaded a research initiative to develop resilient healthcare facilities capable of meeting the demands of the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigating virus transmission. To evaluate congestion, infection risk, and evacuation scenarios, they utilized Oasys Software's pedestrian simulation product, Oasys MassMotion.

Oasys MassMotion was used to conduct spatially explicit stochastic simulations within a virtual hospital setting, integrating an epidemiological transmission model to assess the impact of patient movements on infection risks. The solution also provided a platform for students to engage in active learning about inclusive design, bringing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) to the forefront of the curriculum. The research enhanced the understanding of effective healthcare resilience design strategies and equipped future professionals with the knowledge to design safer, more inclusive facilities.
