A Oasys Software Case Study
Arup was approached by a client to conduct a Quantitative Risk Assessment on two buildings within a large portfolio to understand the risks posed by various design and construction defects. The challenge was to create highly realistic Finite Element Analysis models in Oasys GSA that could accurately represent the current building conditions, including all structural components and their potential defects, which was not possible with their existing code-standard models.
The solution involved using Oasys GSA for a probabilistic modelling strategy powered by a Monte Carlo simulation. Arup developed a Python script using GSApy to automatically generate and analyze thousands of model variations, simulating different levels of degradation and loading conditions. This process, enabled by Oasys GSA, quantified the risk for each building and informed an efficient remediation program, allowing the client to prioritize the next stage of their property portfolio refurbishment.
