Arup speeds flat slab design and cuts manual checks with Oasys Software

Arup, a global engineering firm, faced the challenge of efficiently designing complex reinforced concrete flat slab structures for several large residential masterplans in London. To enhance the design efficiency of these repetitive but irregular grid structures, they turned to Oasys Software and utilized the Oasys GSA analysis software and its API.

The solution implemented by Oasys Software was a digital workflow centered around a custom Flat Slab Design Tool. This tool used the Oasys GSA API alongside Grasshopper and Visual Studio scripts to automate the post-processing of analysis results, iterating through bending reinforcement and punching shear checks. This drastically reduced the volume of manual checks, significantly accelerated the entire design process, and was successfully tested on multiple projects.
