Case Study: Arup improves pedestrian simulation and station operations with Oasys MassMotion

A Oasys Software Case Study

Preview of the Arup Case Study

Arup scans underground station in 2 weeks with Oasys Software for MassMotion simulation

Arup, an engineering firm, faced challenges in redesigning and optimizing complex existing spaces like a historic underground interchange station, where accurate and complete 3D spatial data was unavailable. They partnered with Oasys Software and used its Oasys MassMotion pedestrian simulation service to overcome the lack of precise drawings and information on facility locations.

Oasys provided a solution where reality capture technology, such as LiDAR scanning, was used to quickly create highly accurate 3D models of the spaces, which were then imported into Oasys MassMotion for dynamic simulation. This allowed Arup to efficiently test and assess various redesign options. The results included the successful implementation of soft measures to optimize pedestrian flow and the confident decision to add a new escalator, avoiding significant unnecessary investment and reducing passenger congestion.
