Arup designs a 30ft bamboo pavilion with Oasys Software

The customer, Arup, faced the challenge of structurally analyzing and designing a unique bamboo art installation called Heartburst. The project's unique geometry and the use of an atypical structural material, bamboo, presented significant hurdles. Arup collaborated with Oasys Software, using its Oasys GSA structural analysis software, to analyze many unique design considerations and establish design values for the bamboo components.

Oasys Software's solution provided Arup with powerful analysis tools to overcome these challenges. The use of GSA's features, such as assemblies, custom views, and element customization, was instrumental in efficiently modeling the complex bamboo lattice, assessing the impact of design changes, and carefully considering splice locations. The result was the successful creation of a stunning and sustainable community space, demonstrating the viability of bamboo as a structural material and promoting environmental responsibility in construction.
