Case Study: Arup achieves steel-weight optimisation and rapid structural design with Oasys GSA

Arup used Oasys Software’s GSA on the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort project in Singapore, where structural engineer Juan Maier faced the challenge of analysing and designing several large steel structures with highly complex geometry and more than 5,000 elements each.

Using Oasys Software’s COM Interface in GSA, Arup developed a custom automated program to link directly with the analysis model, repeatedly substitute member sizes, and optimise the structures for minimum steel weight while still meeting design codes. The approach efficiently managed the large models, saved significant client costs, and helped complete work that could have taken three years manually in just three days.
