A Oasys Software Case Study
Arup worked on the Mamu Rainforest Canopy Walkway in Queensland, Australia, a complex tourism project on the edge of Wooroonooran National Park. The site included an elevated rainforest walkway, a high viewing tower, a cantilever tower, and supporting facilities, all subject to difficult environmental conditions, geometric complexity, and significant cyclonic wind loading. Oasys Software provided Structural Suite, including GSA, to support the structural analysis and design.
Using Oasys Software GSA, Arup built 3-D framework models to analyse the walkway, towers, and link bridges, check ultimate and serviceability limit states, model wind loads from multiple directions, and determine base reactions for footing design. Oasys Software also helped Arup assess the dynamic behaviour of the cantilever tower and its natural frequencies. The result was a completed design delivered with confidence and efficiency, enabling Arup to provide a safe, effective structure that enhanced the visitor experience and satisfied the client’s desire for a “lively” walkway.
