Arup was tasked with assessing the stability of a suction caisson foundation system for an offshore meteorological mast in Hong Kong. Their challenge was to model the complex cyclic behavior of the soil under storm loading conditions for this critical structure. To accomplish this, Arup utilized the storm loading module in Oasys Software's Oasys Safe product.

The solution involved using Oasys Safe to perform a back analysis of laboratory centrifuge tests, inputting site-specific soil response data derived from lab testing. The analysis results from Oasys Software showed excellent agreement with the physical test results. This gave Arup the confidence to extend the validated approach to the design of the actual meteorological station foundation, successfully checking its settlement, stability, and dynamic performance.
