Arup’s Ground Engineering team in Melbourne needed to complete geotechnical analysis and design for 11 bored cast-in-place foundations for a transport infrastructure project, while meeting Australian building standards. The work was complicated by varying ground conditions, changing loading conditions, and strict serviceability limits for deflection and rotation, so they used Oasys Software’s Oasys Alp piling software.

Oasys Software’s Alp, via its COM Interface, was integrated with a spreadsheet-based workflow to automate reading and writing project data and rapidly test design options. This let the team evaluate hundreds of pile length and diameter combinations in minutes, including at least 50 single-diameter configurations in under a minute, and cut a typical pile design workflow from up to 30 minutes to about five minutes, saving time while maintaining quality.
