Arup - Customer Case Study

The customer, Arup, was tasked with planning a series of innovative shopping art malls in China for New World Development and K11 Concept Limited. Their challenge was to design these unique spaces, which blend garden, art, and shopping, to facilitate large visitor flows and create a successful user-focused environment. They utilized simulation software from the vendor, Oasys, specifically Oasys MassMotion, to analyze various pedestrian scenarios.

Oasys provided the solution by using its MassMotion software to simulate and analyze a wide range of conditions within the malls. The software identified high-traffic 'hot zones' and low-traffic 'cold zones,' allowing the design to be optimized by strategically locating specific shop types to balance crowd circulation. As a result, Oasys helped Arup identify and resolve potential conflicts at key areas like escalators and entrances, delivering an environment predicted to perform well for future operational scenarios.
