Arkitema - Customer Case Study

Arkitema used Oasys MassMotion to support the design of Trondheim Central Station, a new timber-built transport hub in central Norway. Their challenge was to create a complex, multi-modal station that could handle future passenger volumes while keeping movement intuitive, accessible, and centered on passenger experience.

Using Oasys MassMotion, Arkitema modelled pedestrian flows with forecast passenger data, peak-hour scenarios, and connections from trains, ferries, buses, and taxis. The simulation helped them analyse crowd capacity, test assumptions with heatmaps and real-time visuals, and revise the design by rotating escalators to improve circulation and free space for traffic information, cafés, and shops. Oasys helped Arkitema save time and costs by validating the layout before implementation and creating a stronger, evidence-based foundation for the project.
