Acciona models São Paulo Metro Line 6 with Oasys Software for 12,000-passenger peak demand

Acciona, the company managing the construction of the São Paulo Metro Line 6, faced the challenge of designing high-capacity underground stations to safely and efficiently handle an estimated daily ridership of 630,000 passengers. To enhance user experience and ensure safety, they needed to model passenger flow and station capacity for both normal operation and evacuation scenarios. They utilized Oasys Software's pedestrian experience design software, Oasys MassMotion, through the specialist consultancy MNSolutions.

The solution implemented by Oasys Software involved using MassMotion to conduct detailed pedestrian simulations for all 15 stations on the line. This allowed the design teams to evaluate peak hour demand and incorporate critical sustainability and accessibility parameters. A key result was the ability to specifically model the movement of passengers with reduced mobility, ensuring their routes were convenient and that conflicts with other passenger flows were minimized. This process helped ensure the planned infrastructure would provide a safe and comfortable environment for all future users.
