GRIP Training Institute ships new brand 2 months early with Oak Theory

GRIP Training Institute, a criminal justice nonprofit running a rehabilitation program for incarcerated people in California, faced a challenge with its outdated and institutional visual identity. The branding, inherited from a previous organization, failed to resonate with its divided audiences, which included incarcerated individuals, their families, policymakers, and nonprofit partners. They partnered with Oak Theory for brand strategy and visual identity design to create a cohesive brand that could speak to these different groups simultaneously.

Oak Theory designed a new visual identity that included a logo, color palette, typography system, and brand guidelines. The solution deliberately avoided institutional clichés by using a deep purple and gold color palette for resilience and hope, and typefaces chosen for both clarity and warmth. The entire project was delivered two months early, providing GRIP with a cohesive and authentic brand ready for their end-of-year fundraising push.
