Truckee Tahoe Airport Turning Data Into Decarbonization and Regional Resilience

Truckee Tahoe Airport, a regional airport in the Sierra Nevada, faced the dual challenge of managing its significant carbon footprint from aviation fuel sales and mitigating increasing wildfire risks on its surrounding lands. To address this, the airport partnered with NZero to implement its real-time emissions data platform for comprehensive, facility-level carbon accounting across its operations.

Using NZero's data, the airport was able to strategically reduce its Scope 1 emissions by electrifying ground equipment and invest in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to decouple fuel sales growth from emissions. This led to a 6.7% reduction in Scope 1 emissions and a drop in carbon intensity per gallon of fuel sold. NZero’s platform also provided clarity for facility upgrades and guided a nearly $2 million investment in wildfire resilience projects, which protected critical carbon sinks and enhanced regional safety.
