Case Study: City of Reno achieves emissions reduction with NZero

A NZero Case Study

Preview of the City Of Reno Case Study

The Biggest Little City in the World Made Sustainability a Top Priority

The City of Reno faced rising temperatures more quickly than any other U.S. city and set an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28% by 2025. A key challenge was the lack of quality data, as traditional tracking methods using averages failed to provide the operational insights needed and struggled to capture their complete carbon footprint across scopes 1, 2, and 3. The city partnered with NZero to utilize its carbon management platform to address this.

By implementing NZero's platform, which connects directly to utilities and data sources, Reno automated the capture of real-time, first-party emissions data. This enabled the city to confirm its carbon baseline, optimize operations like EV charging, and launch a Public Emissions Portal. Within two months of working with NZero, the City of Reno saw a 6.34% decrease in emissions compared to the prior year, putting them on track to meet their 2025 climate goal.
