Biofy, a Brazil-based health-tech company and global leader in AI-driven infectious disease diagnostics, faced a significant challenge. Hospitals relying on their traditional lab testing methods experienced delays of approximately five days to identify pathogens and recommend effective antibiotic treatments. This delay forced clinicians to use broad-spectrum antibiotics, which increased costs, drove antimicrobial resistance, and critically endangered patients. Biofy partnered with NVIDIA, utilizing its accelerated computing platform including NVIDIA RAPIDS and CUDA, to overcome this bottleneck and develop a faster, more accurate diagnostic solution.

By implementing a cloud-native pipeline powered by NVIDIA GPUs and accelerated algorithms, Biofy was able to assemble full bacterial genomes and analyze them with AI. This NVIDIA-powered solution, which also utilized Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, resulted in a 30x speedup, reducing the time to treatment recommendation from five days to just four hours. Furthermore, diagnostic accuracy increased to 95-97%, a significant improvement over traditional methods. The performance of NVIDIA's solution also provided up to 50% better performance at half the cost of alternative cloud providers. Since its launch, Biofy's system has performed several thousand tests and is credited with saving more than a hundred lives.
