Case Study: Vidal achieves secure, scalable long-term medical document management with Nuxeo

A Document Management Repository for Medical Product Information

Vidal, a French medical informatics firm founded in 1911 with about 140 employees, needed to manage and retain an enormous and diverse body of medical product information. Regulatory requirements force multi-decade archival (nearly 100 years of documentation), while thousands of new reference documents in many formats and linked structured data must remain easily retrievable across multiple publications and repositories.

After prototyping with Alfresco, Vidal replaced Documentum with the Nuxeo Content Services Platform for its strong APIs, modularity and fit with agile development. Vidal built a custom Vidal Desktop (Eclipse RCP) that integrates with Nuxeo so users query multiple sources through a uniform UI; the repository now contains about 100,000 documents (with ~15,000 added yearly), a phased migration and expansion to medication content is underway, and planned asynchronous replication will improve resilience — delivering lower cost, better scalability, compliance and easier retrieval.
