Northwoods, which helps human services agencies reduce paperwork and burnout with its Traverse® case-management app, needed a more modern, secure way to handle mission-critical PDF documents. Its legacy .NET PDF setup kept users tied to Windows desktops and made it hard to support mobile, remote, and offline access while maintaining HIPAA-aligned security requirements.

With Nutrient’s PDF SDK and Web SDK, Northwoods replaced its legacy viewer with a drop-in web component and later added React Native SDKs for cross-platform mobile access. The result was faster, secure PDF rendering, a more consistent user experience across web and mobile, and lower development and maintenance overhead by reusing built-in features like annotation, redaction, and form filling instead of building them in-house.
