A Nutanix Case Study
Yokohama City, a government-designated city serving over 3.7 million residents, needed to modernize its mission-critical resident, tax, health insurance and welfare systems. A review of 70+ physical servers and shared storage revealed slow migrations, poor and fragile shared-storage performance, uneven resource utilization, limited scalability, and a desire to consolidate infrastructure for better security and manageability.
Yokohama deployed a Nutanix hyperconverged NX-3175 cluster as the virtualization target, migrating 76 physical servers to a 6-node system and bringing servers and storage together in software-defined appliances. The result: Nutanix-related construction was completed in about a week (5x faster overall), operational workloads dropped by roughly 80% (management effort down to about one-fifth), peak storage I/O improved ~10x, OS/middleware installs were ~10x faster, and platform scalability and future consolidation were greatly simplified.
