A Nutanix Case Study
Yakima County, which serves over 250,000 residents, needed a more manageable and scalable virtual desktop infrastructure to support five county departments including judges who move among chambers and 12 courtrooms. Their aging Dell servers and EqualLogic SAN supported 12 different desktop pools and 30 unique 1:1 VMs, creating a patching and management nightmare and preventing consistent, fast desktop experiences.
The county adopted Unidesk for application layering and deployed a Nutanix 1000‑series hyperconverged platform with VMware virtual desktops; the setup was straightforward and well supported. The result: 80 virtual desktops running (planned to grow to 120), noticeably faster performance from SSDs, a reduced datacenter footprint (7U to 2U), about two hours per day saved in management, and plans to expand to Nutanix AHV to cut licensing costs.
