A Nutanix Case Study
William Jessup University, a fast-growing private college in Rocklin, CA, was running on aging infrastructure: 34 servers (many near end-of-life), a decade-old 2.5 TB single-controller SAN, mixed CPU hosts that blocked VMware HA, and chronic memory and performance issues. With rising enrollment and an urgent need for more capacity, performance and disaster recovery, the IT team sought a cost-effective replacement that would address compute, storage and availability.
They deployed a 3-node Nutanix converged appliance (NX-3050), migrating workloads from about 30 servers with a virtually seamless 6-hour install and only one hour of planned downtime. The cluster now runs 46 VMs, delivering high IOPS, easy scaling and integrated HA/DR, while shrinking the datacenter footprint from 36U to 2U (94% rack reduction), cutting power expenses by 88% (about $11,813/year) and simplifying management for the small IT staff.
