A Nutanix Case Study
Western Washington University (WWU), a public university of over 15,000 students, was running aging HP EVA SAN arrays that were nearing end-of-support and creating an unbalanced environment where compute outpaced storage. With tight infrastructure budgets that often forced large, upfront purchases, WWU needed a more flexible, reliable, and easier-to-manage platform to support central database, web, collaboration, and ERP workloads.
WWU deployed the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform with Prism Pro, migrating 278 VMs and consolidating four racks into just 6U while cutting power use to about 25% of the previous system. The move eliminated roughly 20 hours per week of storage/server management, enabled one-click non-disruptive upgrades, dramatically improved performance (notably for Skype), provided linear scalability and easy capacity expansion, and established cross-datacenter snapshot replication for redundancy.
