US Department of Defense - Customer Case Study

A DoD IT agency needed a turnkey, scalable platform to host VMware Horizon View virtual desktops for the Pentagon and other facilities. With a new datacenter that had no servers or storage, the agency required a SAN-free, single-vendor solution that could be procured and deployed quickly, deliver strong desktop performance, and scale from a pilot of hundreds to thousands of users.

They chose the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform — a converged, scale-out appliance — which moved from procurement to production pilot in under a month and delivered exceptional desktop performance with simplified, single-point management. A 500-desktop pilot proved successful (≈55 power users per node; 4 nodes = 220 power users in 2U), reduced management overhead, and positioned the agency to deploy 4,000 desktops initially and scale to over 20,000 as needed.
