University of Waterloo Chooses Nutanix for New VDI Deployment

The University of Waterloo needed a better way to support its new virtual desktop infrastructure for library patrons after finding that storage performance was the main bottleneck in its VMware Horizon View environment. The university evaluated several options, including traditional three-tier architectures, and selected Nutanix for its VDI deployment.

Nutanix implemented the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform, using a proof of concept that handled heavy test workloads without performance degradation and then deploying the production system quickly. The result was dramatically reduced administrative time, faster application access, improved user satisfaction, and the ability to add 25 more desktops than planned without extra hardware; later, the university was also able to expand the project in stages, supporting future growth with Nutanix.
