A Nutanix Case Study
The University of Canberra, a leading Australian higher-education institution with over 15,500 students and staff, faced growing pressure to deliver high-performance, scalable IT for AI/ML teaching and research while providing reliable remote access and lowering operating costs. Its challenges included supporting GPU-enabled workloads, running production and disaster-recovery environments, and modernizing legacy systems to meet rising demand from research centers and online learning.
The university deployed the Nutanix Cloud Platform (AOS storage, AHV) and Nutanix Cloud Manager, migrated key workloads including Oracle RAC, and implemented VDI and a compact DR facility. As a result, about 90% of systems now run on Nutanix, the campus can scale to GPU nodes for advanced AI and bioinformatics work, remote access and VDI performance have improved, and the university has realized multi‑million‑dollar IT savings and substantial infrastructure consolidation.
