A Nutanix Case Study
The University of Northampton, a modern UK institution with about 15,000 students and 2,500 staff, faced a fragile, hard‑to‑manage IT estate made up of mixed hypervisors and a multivendor stack (nine clusters across 49 nodes) that caused host and disk failures and threatened availability during the critical student clearing period. The university needed a single, resilient, fast‑to‑deploy platform that would simplify management, improve disaster recovery and let services be spun up and down quickly to meet peak demand.
Northampton standardised on Nutanix HCI (including AHV, Cloud Manager and Nutanix Move) with partner Softcat, migrating to a single 12‑node production cluster in four days and integrating backup with Rubrik. The result is a unified control plane across two on‑prem datacentres and SaaS, faster recovery (minutes instead of a 24‑hour restore), stronger resilience and executive confidence, plus a future‑proof foundation for further Nutanix services and cloud flexibility.
