The Department for Work and Pensions, the UK’s largest central government organisation, standardizes on Nutanix for their hybrid cloud environment

The Department for Work and Pensions, the UK’s largest central government organisation, faced a fragmented IT environment after more than 20 years of outsourcing, which hurt value for money, resilience, and its ability to support a modern workplace. The Department for Work and Pensions turned to Nutanix Cloud Platform to regain control of core workloads, reduce silos, and build a private cloud foundation that could support a future hybrid cloud strategy.

Nutanix implemented a secure on-premise private cloud across two datacentres, using AHV, Nutanix Files, and Prism to manage virtual desktops and data/analytics workloads. The result was no downtime during implementation, improved application performance and availability, and cloud-like scalability with lower operational overhead; routine processing that once took a whole weekend now completes in just a few hours, and the environment has scaled to 450 nodes.
