A Nutanix Case Study
The City of Cape Coral, Florida (about 180,000 residents) faced a complex, time-consuming IT environment—multiple data centers with aging SAN storage, Fibre Channel switches and blade servers—while also shouldering responsibility for critical services like 911, computer-aided dispatch and other public safety, ERP and HR systems. ITC manager Matt Vilord and his team needed greater reliability, simplified management and robust disaster recovery to keep emergency services available and keep pace with advancing municipal technology.
After testing Nutanix Enterprise Cloud and adopting the AHV hypervisor, the city migrated roughly 98% of its workloads (including CAD, ERP, JDE and public safety apps) to a compact, self-healing platform. The move delivered one-click upgrades, reduced infrastructure from five racks to less than one, enabled nightly offsite replication for faster DR, cut hypervisor licensing costs, and increased availability—freeing the IT team to focus on strategic projects and improving public-safety reliability for citizens.
