St. Luke’s Health System, Idaho’s not-for-profit regional health network, needed a more agile desktop strategy to support mobile physicians and caregivers. With boot times of six to seven minutes on legacy devices and a looming Windows 7 migration affecting 14,000 desktops and over 2,000 applications, the IT team sought a storage and VDI solution that would speed logins, simplify deployment, and scale easily.

St. Luke’s implemented Nutanix converged infrastructure alongside Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp, building the VDI environment in weeks and bringing about 3,000 users online so far. The solution enabled faster logins and quicker application rollouts, simplified scaling across 30 sites (≈100 desktops each), supported a fast merger and Epic EHR deployment, and improved security and clinician productivity.
