A Nutanix Case Study
Selkirk College, a small community college in rural British Columbia, faced an aging datacenter running Moodle, ERP, file/print and SQL services with a legacy SAN, VMware and Novell stack. With skilled IT staff scarce and only one person trained to manage the complex environment, routine maintenance forced weekend work and left the college vulnerable when that person was unavailable.
In 2017 Selkirk upgraded to Nutanix Enterprise Cloud on Dell EMC XC (using the AHV hypervisor), deploying two clusters with nightly replication over a 10 Gb link. The new platform delivered rapid, simple VM provisioning and sub‑second snapshots, one‑click non‑disruptive upgrades, a self‑service portal, and strong support—enabling a new VDI service for research, consolidating eight sites into two data centers, reducing power/cooling/footprint, and removing the need to hire additional specialists.
