Sapporo City Selects Nutanix for Application Virtualization to Achieve Internet Segregation

Sapporo City, the government center of Hokkaido, faced a national mandate to implement Internet segregation to prevent data leakage by separating public Internet access from internal administrative networks. The city needed to virtualize desktop environments for roughly 80 servers’ worth of workloads, accelerate long deployment timelines, and simplify operations while ensuring robust security and scalability.

Sapporo selected Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure with Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop on VMware ESXi, deploying 16 NX‑3000 and 4 NX‑8000 nodes. The new platform cut VM copy times from hours to 10 minutes, booted virtual browsers in under 10 seconds (about 3× faster), and halved application launch times. The project is enabling Internet Explorer virtualization for ~14,000 users across 80 virtual servers, delivering integrated management, faster deployments, and stronger security for future projects.
