Sanity Music Makes In-Store Searches Fast with Virtual Desktops Running on Nutanix

Sanity Music, one of Australia’s largest specialty music and video retailers with 160 stores, faced slow in-store internet searches—page loads in some regional stores took up to 30 seconds—undermining customer experience and sales. Upgrading each store’s bandwidth was too costly, so IT investigated virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to reduce data over the network and improve responsiveness.

Sanity deployed VMware View on a Nutanix NX-2000 converged cluster, rolling out 350 virtual desktops in six weeks ahead of the holiday season. The VDI cut web page times from ~30 seconds to 1–2 seconds, reduced 11 MB catalogue downloads from minutes to seconds, trimmed datacenter footprint by about 75%, lowered power and operating costs, and delivered faster searches and better customer satisfaction.
