San Mateo County Relies on Nutanix Infrastructure and Global Services

San Mateo County’s IT organization, led by CIO Jon Walton, faced an urgent technology refresh: aging, heterogeneous storage and server infrastructure that was hard to manage, not easily scalable, and costly to support across the county’s diverse public safety, healthcare, public works and government services. With limited government budgets, the team needed a cost-effective, simple-to-manage platform that could scale for current needs and future projects.

The county deployed the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform (3060) with Nutanix Global Services support, resident consultants, a Technical Relationship Manager, and staff training. The systems were up and running in hours, reduced CapEx and day-to-day OpEx, eliminated planned and unplanned downtime, and simplified management so engineers could focus on strategic work. San Mateo now runs 40 nodes in eight clusters and plans to expand for disaster recovery, hybrid cloud and additional workloads.
