A Nutanix Case Study
The University of Salerno, a large multi‑campus institution in Campania with about 40,000 students and extensive facilities, faced a complex IT environment — more than 40,000 network points and roughly 1,000 surveillance cameras — and needed to simplify management, cut total cost of ownership, reduce data center space and energy use, and strengthen security while scaling VDI and virtualization services.
To meet those goals the university deployed Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (25 nodes with AOS, AHV and Prism Pro) to support VDI, full server virtualization and upgraded video surveillance. The move delivered a single management plane, enabled 400 servers to be run by two people, cut data‑center rack space by 50%, reduced energy consumption by 62.5% (and CO2 emissions accordingly), improved recovery and security, and freed IT staff for higher‑value projects.
